At Yücel Cultural Foundation, we believe theatre provides a powerful space for people to look at their own stories, memories, and emotions from a different perspective. Through Culture Hunters, we are bringing audiences together with the story of a woman trying to rediscover her voice and strength while finding her way through loss.
“Teşekkür Ederim Kızım” is a one-woman play in which Yasemin’s memories, stretching from childhood to adulthood, gradually unfold during a lighting rehearsal on stage.
From being assigned the role of a “watermelon” as a child and growing up in the shadow of being the middle child, to music lessons, teenage rebellion, dreams, and love, Yasemin’s memories reveal how she moves through the voices of others while searching for her own.
Caught between her past, family, faith, losses, and desire to exist on her own terms, Yasemin follows the traces of courage once again, particularly through the voice of her mother. With a sincere narrative touched by humour, the play asks whether someone who has long been afraid of being seen can finally step into the centre of her own life.
“Teşekkür Ederim Kızım” explores our relationship with what we have lost, the invisible burdens carried within families, and the struggle to find one’s own voice through a simple theatrical language moving between comedy and drama.
