True Volunteering: “Knowing Yourself, Finding Your Path”

Volunteering and self-discovery

A volunteer is defined as a person who undertakes a task willingly, without any obligation or expectation of return. Volunteering appears in many forms at both individual and societal levels, through activities and programs organized by various institutions, foundations, and associations, whether long-term or short-term.

It also plays a determining, influential role in the motif of human destiny. To give a concrete example; just as we see birds, the sky, and clouds when we look out of a window, a person experiences self-discovery and self-awareness in the journey of volunteering. No one is an extra in their own life story. Every individual is the leading role in their own story, just like the main actor in a play.

Role: Which role am I in (yourself)

Event: Your life story. The narrative given to you.

Place: Your current position (route)

Time: The current moment you are in.

Final note: Kemal Sayar, considered a prominent figure in literature, once said: “Human beings are meaning-seeking creatures. What makes us unique in the world and distinguishes us from other beings is our search for meaning.”
